All brides want to look stunning on their big day. Everyone’s eyes will be on you the moment you walk down the aisle, and like every bride, you want to look your best in that special moment. But before you get there, you have a million things to take care of.
Your wedding planning is moving along as expected: You’ve chosen the venue for the reception, scheduled the caterer, found a dress, and are finalizing your guest list. And, of course, on your wedding to-do list, you have a visit to the salon planned. While an eyebrow wax and spray tan might be your usual go-to treatments, you know you deserve just a little more for this big day! What about injectables to make your skin look flawless?
To help you plan the timing of your visit, Dr. David Gerth and his team can guide you on how best to schedule your cosmetic treatments, so you will look and feel your best when the doors open and the music starts to play.
What Are Botox and Injectable Dermal Fillers?
While fillers on their own can produce stunning results, Dr. Gerth frequently uses a combination of dermal fillers and Botox® to perform a “liquid facelift,” which is a non-surgical procedure that provides benefits you’ll love. These include plumper and better-defined lips, fewer wrinkles and fine lines, reduced jowls, and uplifts of the eyelids and corners of your mouth, as well as the addition of more volume to your temples and mid-face. Available injectable products include:
- Botox®: A purified form of botulinum toxin, this injectable works by relaxing your facial muscles. Not only does this prevent new wrinkles from contracting, but it also reduces existing wrinkles. Botox is the most popular non-invasive cosmetic treatment for future brides, and an ideal way to smooth out many of those pesky signs of premature aging.
- Juvéderm®: Best known as a family of smooth, biocompatible gel-based dermal fillers, Juvéderm consists of hyaluronic acid. Produced naturally by your body, this substance effectively adds volume to your lips and cheeks, as well as smooths out smile and frown lines that have formed around your mouth and nose.
- Restylane®: A set of injectables which also uses hyaluronic acid as its main ingredient, these have a formula designed for deeper injection into the tissues of your face and even the backs of your hands.
- Sculptra®: These injections contain a biocompatible synthetic substance known as poly-L-lactic acid, which stimulates the production of new collagen and helps prevent drooping skin.
When Should I Get Botox or Dermal Fillers?
The timing of your first appointment with Dr. Gerth is crucial. While the overall results might immediately be apparent, you’ll also want to give enough time for recovery before your wedding day.
Dermal injectable filler treatments allow you to resume your normal daily activities immediately afterward with no downtime. The most common side effects are mild and temporary swelling, redness, pain, and bruising at the injection site. It is easy to manage these by applying cold compresses and taking over-the-counter pain medication. Allow up to four weeks for complete recovery.
Of course, for other members of your wedding party, such as the mother of the bride, the ideal timeframe might be a little longer, as will the number of visits.
Dr. Gerth will provide all the details, but a general guideline is to schedule dermal filler treatments at least six to eight weeks in advance to ensure the best results and allow for any bruising to subside. A bruise could last up to 10 days.
